Evapotranspiration in the Everglades; Comparison of Bowen Ratio Measurements and Model Estimations

چکیده

The Everglades in south Florida is a marsh system where most of the time wet vegetated marshes and open water features prevail. Rainfall and evapotranspiration (ET) are the main parameters in the hydrology of the Everglades. The delicate balance between rainfall and evapotranspiration maintains the hydrology system in either a wet condition or dry condition. Based on a literature review of both measurement and estimate of evapotranspiration in south Florida, 134.5 cm is an average estimate of annual potential evapotranspiration or evapotranspiration from wetlands and open water in south Florida. In this study, comparisons are made between Bowen ratio-energy balance measured ET at nine sites in the Everglades and wetland ET estimations with a Simple Model (also cited as Abtew Equation or Simple Abtew equation) that is based on solar radiation. The results of this study cross-validate model estimates and Bowen ratio measurements of ET in marshes because the Simple Model was calibrated independently from a previous lysimeter ET study. The area is warm, humid, wet, high solar radiation and low wind speed with prevalent wind direction of north-north-east, east-north-east and east-southeast.

Evaluation of a water balance model using data for bare soil and crop surfaces in Middle Europe

This paper compares the results of simulations and measurements of evapotranspiration from cultivated fields in Middle Europe. The modelling system THESEUS (i.e. toolbox for hydro-ecological simulation and evaluation utilities) from Wegehenkel (1997a, 2000) was used in this study. Evapotranspiration was also calculated from the latent heat flux density (LE) measured using a modified Bowen ratio...

Evaluation of Different Methods of Calculating the Potential Evapotranspiration at the Annual Timescale in the Northeast of Iran

One of the most fundamental processes, which influence climate and weather, both global and local scales that a fact which gives it the status of agriculture, is Evapotranspiration (ET). In irrigation and water resources management, ecosystem modelers, environmental assessment and solar energy system, accurate assessment of evapotranspiration is essential. Potential evapotranspiration (ET) h...

ارزیابی مدل‌های تعرق و جذب آب درخت زیتون با استفاده از لایسیمتر

Different root water uptake models have recently been used. In this article, we use evapotranspiration data and soil water content data obtained from lysimeter measurements and root distribution in soil data obtained from olive tree to evaluate the accuracy of root water uptake models in predicting the soil water content profiles. Depth of lysimeter was 120 cm which was filled with clay-loam. L...

Comparison of Experimentally and Theoretically Determined Infiltration in Coarse Textured Soil

Though it is vital to estimate infiltration as one of the key factors in effective management of water resources, only few studies have been carried out either to determine the infiltration or to compare the performance of infiltration models for coarse textured soils. Thus, the present study was conducted to accomplish two objectives. First to estimate the Horton’s infiltration model parameter...
